The Mississippi Fellowship of United Methodist Evangelicals along with the General Conference Delegates ask us to join them Wednesday, July 29th, in a day of prayer, fasting, and repentance. We will have a prayer meeting Wednesday evening at 6:30 in response to this call. If you can’t join us at Courtland for the prayer meeting, please consider fasting that day and take some time to pray for our church, our conference, and our denomination.

I hope everyone had a chance to see the newsletter distributed yesterday. If you didn’t, you can read it online at www.courtlandumc.org/newsletters/vol1_num1.pdf . Hopefully we can make this a monthly newsletter, but it will require your help.
Here are some things to think about…
- Your testimony or other life lessons
- Reflections on particular Bible passages or themes
- Current church activities/projects you’re involved with
- Poems, original short stories, drawings, etc.
- Cartoons, jokes, etc.
- Anything else I haven’t thought of
Also, if there is anyone you would like me to mail or email the newsletter to, send me the address.
Blessings
Allen
The soldier send-off for Mississippi Army National Guard Delta Company 2-198, organized by members of the Family Readiness Group, will be held tomorrow at the Batesville Civic Center at 9:30 a.m.
If you would like to volunteer to assist the family members of our deployed soldiers, please see Topper Olson. Keep in mind that, since this is a year long deployment, this will be an ongoing need in our community.
If you have old cell phones and would like to donate them to a worthy cause, bring them and place them in the collection box in the fellowship hall. Those collected will be given to the “Cell Phones for Soldiers” campaign. For each cell phone collected, a private company will provide a 60 min phone card for use by our troops overseas.
The United Methodist Women made up 14 Easter Baskets for Faith Hospice and others. We would like to thank everyone for their donations. This means so much for those who can’t get out as they once were able.
Don’t forget to make plans to attend the Good Friday service tomorrow night at 7:00. We will be having a Tenebrae (Latin for “shadows”) service. The purpose of the Tenebrae service is to evoke the feelings associated with a world plunged into darkness at the betrayal, arrest, trial, torture, and crucifixion of Jesus. It prepares us to more fully appreciate the Glorious Dawn on Easter morning. To read more about this service go to http://www.kencollins.com/question-39.htm .
Please come, and bring a friend.
